I've found that if you can't reason with people, then you might as well support them instead. At least then when they ultimately do something stupid, you'll be ready to clean up their messes.
That's how this whole thing started in the first place. Or rather... a sensitive subject that I suppose I shouldn't have touched. I'll spare you the details. It'd just make you mad.
