A little more info:
Eizen is a being called a Malakhim. They aren't human and most humans can't even see his kind unless they have an extremely strong spiritual awareness. They are beings that are "born" from spots in the world called earth pulse points and they can use the power of nature depending on what type of Malak they are ie Earth, Wind, Fire, or Water.
Eizen lived his life in solitude for some time until a baby malak was born. While Malakhim don't actually have any blood connection to each other, when this baby was born, Eizen felt a strong connection to her. He gave her the name Edna and took care of her, raising her as his little sister until his blessing manifested causing huge problems for the two of them. The blessing is an ability that all Malakhim have. It's like their own little power that they are born with and it affects the area around them. The stronger the Malakhim, the further the range their power can reach. Eizen's power is basically the power of Bad luck. It's not something he can turn off or cause at whim. Sometimes the bad luck could be something as simple as someone around him skinning their knee. Other times his power has been known to actually kill people. Anyone and anything around him, himself included can get hurt by this power. This power manifested when Eizen's love for Edna grew and grew and one day they started getting attacked by daemons. Dangerous things kept happening to and around Edna. Also because of this "blessing" of his that he refers to as a curse, he has been dubbed as the Reaper and this blessing of his is his reaper's curse. He moved them to live on top of a mountain, but even that didn't seem to stop the problems.
To keep his sister safe, Eizen left her on the mountain and went off on a journey. At first his journey had been to find a way to take away this curse of his so he could go back to his sister, but along the way he met a group of pirates being led by a man named Van Aifread. As a Malakhim, if Eizen isn't tethered to something pure he could easily become corrupted. So when he met this band of pirates, he tethered himself to their ship.
For a long while he was tethered to the ship until once on their journey he found an ancient coin, one side an angel's face, the other side a reaper's face. He tethered himself to that instead. Van Aifread was one of those people who could actually sense Eizen around, and could even see him. He let Eizen stay aboard his ship, gaining a whole lot of respect from Eizen. Eizen made a choice to stay with the pirates instead of looking for a way to get rid of his curse. These pirates became his family, his crew and he wanted to explore the whole world with them. Malakhim can easily be poisoned by a person's malevolence if they aren't tethered to a pure vessel.
About ten years before the actual game takes place, something terrible happens during a scarlet night where there was a sacrifice to a higher being in the world known as Innominat. This sacrifice awakened Innominat from his slumber. Because of this incident, People were able to see Malakhim and daemons alike and the rest of the crew on Aifread's ship could see Eizen. Hee officially became a member of the crew and became Aifread's right hand man making him the first mate of the ship.
During their travels, Eizen comes across Velvet Crow,(the main character) a woman who was turned into a daemon who had nothing but vengeance on her mind because of the incidents that caused to Innominat to awaken. Eizen mentioned to Velvet that they had been looking for their Captain since about a year ago, and their plans both seemed to align together.
Eizen let Velvet and her own company join the crew because of this. That's how Eizen's band of pirates and Velvet's band of misfits joined to make an interesting crew all together.
The person who Velvet had a grudge against was a man named Atorius, who was technically behind the awakening of Innominat. This being wanted to erase all malevolence from the world and basically turn everyone into an empty shell so no bad feelings could ever happen. With the help of Eizen and the rest of Velvet's company, they were able to defeat this man and stop Innominat from causing any harm. A malak in their group named Laphicet had an extremely special power for a Malakhim and ended up becoming a great protector of the world. While he couldn't erase malevolence from the world and make everything better, he was able to erase most of what Innominat did.
Because of what Laphicet did, the world went back to how it was before. Most people couldn't see Malakhim or daemons again, and Eizen while he still went back to travel with his crew, he was back to being invisible to the humans he once traveled with.
Personality:
At first glance when someone sees Eizen (if they can see him at all), they usually see a big moody pirate with sharp scary eyes. For most serious matters Eizen is the first to speak up about all the possible dangers. He's not afraid of getting hurt and he never backs down from danger. Around most people, even those he feels comfortable with, he's very gruff and straight to the point. Even when he's in a decent mood he just gives off this feeling that he's angry about something. While this is an image that Eizen doesn't mind having, he is a lot more than just his intimidating looks and blunt attitude. There are a few people in his life and one big problem (his reaper's curse) that helped shape him to be the man he is today. Without their help he might have grown to be completely different. He shows enthusiasm for so many things including life and ancient artifacts. His words can often be harsh but there was a lot of care behind them.
The first in his life that helped change him and his views would be his little sister Edna. During his travels his companions asked about Edna and Eizen told them about Malakhim and how they don't have any blood relations, but the moment he saw this little baby malak coming from the the earth pulse, he was in love. There was a spark of something that drew him to her and he immediately took her in as his baby sister. Slowly he became an extremely protective older brother. He taught her everything he knew and looked after her as much as he could. He adored her so much that when his powers manifested and started causing troubles he left her. It was cruel and surely Edna was hurt by this, but it was the only way he knew to keep her safe. His powers of bad luck would just continue to bring her pain and suffering and Eizen wasn't about to inflict that pain on his sister. Even now that they hadn't seen each other in so long, Eizen feels this sense to keep her safe. When his crew teases him about Edna finding some boy to get close to, Eizen gets extremely angry.
Another person who affected the way Eizen carries himself was a Pirate captain named Aifread. While traveling around with Aifread, the pirates on board and the ship went through many hardships because of Eizen, but instead of treating it like something terrible, Aifread only said to Eizen "If you were born with the power of that curse, then that curse itself is who you are." Hearing those words made Eizen rethink some things. It gave a positive look on his powers and helped him choose to stay in this life of piratehood instead of continuously looking for something he may never find. While he did miss his sister and worried about her a lot, he was living his life and living life to the fullest is part of Eizen's creed. Aifread gave Eizen his freedom back and because of this, Van Aifread and his crew grew to become the most feared pirates around because of the hardships Eizen's curse put them through.
He doesn't back down from any challenge and you'll never find Eizen stopping anything he feels strongly about just because someone else says no. Life is so short for most people, and it irritates him when people hold back because of little things. He doesn't think people should let anything stop them from living the life they want to live. He feels so strongly about this fact that ( Spoilers after this point )
during the game as a side quest, a Malakhim that he had grown to known because of their journeying around, had a girlfriend who turned into a dragon. ( Malakhim are born pure with no malevolence inside of them. They can't make their own, but if they hang around humans long enough, they can absorb it if they don't have a pure vessel to keep them tethered, and even then that might not always work. If a Malakhim absorbs too much malevolence, they turn into dragons. )
Eizen and his companions had tried to kill this dragon many times because there was no way to bring a Malak back once they become a dragon, but Zaveid, the boyfriend of this dragon, kept trying to stop them because he loved her so much. Everyone was thinking Eizen wanted to kill her because there was a rumor that killing a white horned dragon that this Malak became would get rid of his curse. Eizen said many times that he wasn't the one that was cursed despite everyone knowing he had this bad luck. He said that it was actually Zaveid who was cursed. The reason he felt so strongly about killing this dragon was because Zaveid had stopped living his own life because of her. He stopped doing anything except following her around and trying to keep her safe and others safe from her. In the end Eizen was able to kill her while taking in a lot of her malevolence in the process. Eizen knew that some day he too would become a dragon, or he felt strongly that he would because he hung around humans so much, but it didn't matter to him. He wasn't going to stop doing what he loved. He wasn't going to let anyone or anything keep him from living. This is a feeling that is so strong in his heart.
Eizen also has some rather interesting sides to him, ones that you might not think he had at first glance. He LOVES architecture. He loves finding new ancient things on his travels and finding out everything he can about them. When him and his crew find new spots he jumps to the chance to tell them all about what he knows of the place or the things inside them. According to a few of his new companions, he's also rather picky and maybe even a bit superstitious. He likes things done in a particular way and gets bothered when it's not. His companions were having a conversation about the way Eizen acts sometimes and they said on every weekend he eats curry for dinner. Every time they travel into port, he docks at the third bollard. The Galley crew complains that he needs his pasta cooked exactly the right way. Whenever he needs a new outfit, he goes to the same tailor and returns with clothes that look exactly like the ones he was currently wearing. Clothes, boots, and all. They all have to be exactly the same size and exactly the same color. He won't take no for an answer. He was a very particular Malak that needed things to be as they should be.
Basically anything Eizen is interested in, or feels very strongly for, he becomes very passionate about. He puts his heart into everything he does.
He has a soft spot for children that he doesn't like to show off, but it's obvious with Laphicet, a child Malak that had joined his journey. He tries to give this young malak advise at every turn and almost seems protective over him at some points. He wants Laphicet to live his own life and grow out of following orders.
Abilities:
Along with sheer muscle and strength, Eizen also has a lot of Artes as well. In the Tales of Series Artes depending on the type are basically named attacks and spells.
https://aselia.fandom.com/wiki/ToB_-_Eizen:_Artes
He has Martial artes which are all basically different punches, jabs, some of them causing different status aliments like stunning and poison. Although some of his martial artes are a little fancier than punches like Last Throes and Deceiving Pummel. Last Throes is more like an elemental punch of wind attacks and with Deceiving pummel, he punches the ground and chains shoot out of the ground to attack the enemy nearby.
Then he also has Malak Artes. Malaks are beings that are aligned to elements like Water, Earth, Wind, Fire ect. Eizen specifically is an Earthen Malak who can also use Wind like moves. All of his Malak artes are types of wind slashes through the air and earth attacks. They take time to cast and they can be interrupted if he gets hit by an enemy.
He has three moves called Break Souls. They are basically attacks that do damage while also regaining health and Tales of Berseria version of mp/magic points. They're what lets Eizen do these kind of attacks in the first place.
These three attacks are called Draconic Drive, Dragon Dive, and Tyrant's Fete. In all these three attacks Eizen glows a dark cloudy color and almost takes on the form of a Dragon with dark glowing eyes as he dives and attacks his enemies.
Then there are artes known as Mystic Artes. These are artes that are special and specific to their own character. While doing enough attacks/combos/ and stunning an enemy Eizen has three Mystic artes he can use.
Perfect Mayhem, where he flips his coin and pummels an enemy before the coin falls and catches it at the end.
Howling Dragon, where he takes on that smokey dragon looking form again and just dives and shoves into the enemy with a great force.
The last one of his mystic artes being Venom Strike, where he basically punches his enemy with all of his force sending them flying into the air like they're blasting off into the stratosphere.
Alignment: Thras:
A big reason why I want him aligned to Thras is because spoilers:
Berseria is a prequel to Tales of Zesteria. And in Zesteria... well this happens to Eizen. :( But also I think he would be a good fit for Thras. He charges into things without fear and doesn't let anything stop him from living his life the way he wants to.
Other:
Because of what Eizen is, normal people can't see him unless they have a really high resonance, like a strong connection to spirits and elemental things, but I thought it might be fun to change it up a bit(Thanks to Lae). Instead of others not being able to see Eizen in the game unless they have this resonance or they're aligned to what he is, I was wondering if it would be alright to make it so his curse messes with the affects of this and sometimes he shows up as invisible to someone but they can still hear him, or casually having a conversation with someone and BAM somehow his arm is invisible to the naked eye sort of thing.
